Lounge room portrait photography

I recently got back from shooting a wedding in Canada. Had such an amazing time and am truly grateful to Steve and Lis for flying me over. I’m still processing those images (over 40GB’s of data…) and hope to have them online shortly. Since I got back though have had 4 commercial shoots so has been a very hectic time! To make life busier I also needed to test some new lighting kit, so I roped the girlfriend into doing some quick modelling in the lounge room. Here’s one of my favourites:

Image is pretty much straight out of camera apart from some minor skin retouching. We got the effect by combining flash and regular incandescent lights (the regular lights were covered with coloured gels). The streaks of colour were burned in using a long exposure while Nadine’s image was frozen with flash. Very experimental but I think it works. Just goes to show that with the right lighting (and model :) ) you can turn an average room into something interesting.

The lighting kit I was testing were 2 new gridded softboxes. They produce a beautifully soft yet directional light, which lets me control exactly where it falls. Love it and has already been used on a magazine shoot a few days ago (those photos to also follow shortly).

Thanks Nadine for volunteering for this shoot and also doing the skin retouching (quite handy dating a professional photo retoucher!) xx

Corporate headshots for an entrepreneur

Joseph Nathan needed some new headshots to go along with his new business venture.

The first two were shot in the studio to recreate a very specific style that Joseph was after:

For this 3rd image, we stepped outside for a more casual look that he could use for social networking.

Best of luck with the new business venture mate!

Miles portfolio shoot

Miles was looking to kickstart his modelling career, so we arranged to shoot a range of styles so his portfolio could look varied. Here’s some of my favourites from the shoot.

I recently photographed the UK’s leading life coach, Mr Rasheed Ogunlaru. Rasheed wanted some updated PR imagery to go along with his new website www.rasaru.com. I wanted our studio pics to look really fresh, warm and welcoming, so opted to go for a nice seamless orange

Next we hit the outside world to grab a few shots around Tower Bridge. This location appeared along the way with funky spotlights that were on the surrounding walls. A quick climb up the wall to reposition them, add in a reflector and away we go

It was getting quite dark and poor Rasheed was getting a bit frozen, so we headed to our final destination to finish off the shoot. First image is lit with plain white flash through a white umbrella

I felt it was looking a bit cold, so added a blue gel to the flash, then corrected the colour back in camera to a neutral foreground. This results in sending any areas not lit by the flash orange

Warm background achieved, so we worked on the last few pics and wrapped up Rasheed in his jacket again!

Cheers Rasheed for a fun PR shoot and pushing through despite the cold London evening!

Bukky and Miss Harriet portfolio shoot

Male model Bukky Oni contacted me about a shoot he wanted to do for his portfolio with Miss Harriet. I called in hair and make up superstar Ana Popescu and together we worked on a few different images.

The guys had a couple of dynamic poses they wanted to try, so we shot these first with a large soft box placed to camera left. Can you tell their thighs are burning?!

Much easier on the legs standing upright!

And even better sitting down ;)

For this shot of Bukky while Miss Harriet was having a re-style, I used a single flash with a very tight snoot pointing down across his face

I kept similar lighting for these next few shots, just opened the beam up to cover both of the models

And finally, one of my favourite images of the day. Again a snooted flash to camera right

Big thanks to Bukky, Miss Harriet and Ana !!
