A super fun Melbourne wedding

Here’s a few favourites from my close friends Lauren and Warren’s wedding in Melbourne.  I met Warren about 10 years ago in London and we’ve been mates ever since. Woz is a down to earth, genuine, honest bloke who I really look up to. He also has the most contagious laugh, which is super handy at parties as you can always find him no matter how crowded the room.

Lauren is a perfect match for Woz. She keeps him in line but always does so with a smile on her face :)
She’s smart, funny, very sweet AND looked absolutely stunning in her wedding dress.

My aim for the day as with every wedding, was to try and capture true emotion and really tell the story of the day through my photos. They’re a happy, fun and cheeky couple, so I wanted the images to reflect that.

It absolutely bucketed down when we went off to do the couples portraits. Made for some cool atmospheric images though. For this one we had about 5 umbrellas going, covering flash units etc. Thankfully the couple stayed reasonably dry. Can’t say the same for myself but was all worth it!

Scott, delivering his best man speech. Notice the image in the background? Warren’s face on Justin Bieber’s body. Hilarious. Had the entire room keeled over.

Nana was so cute. I love moments like these.

Thanks again for having me there Woz and Loz. Was an honour to be there and has ended up being one of the best weddings I’ve ever had the privilege of photographing.

Big love,
Damo

Whitney and Zaylia Cosmetics

Am out in Australia at the moment and decided to get a shoot in while I’m here. Many people involved in this but a huge thank you to Antoinette from Zaylia Cosmetics who helped me tremendously with the organisation.

It was a super hot day and we got eaten by mosquitos, green ants, and not to mention the sun. Also had loads of gear to carry over sand (no rolling the cases like we normally can…) so a big thanks to my assistants for the day Becky and Taylor. Got some great photos though so was all worth it in the end :)

Model: Whitney – Mirror Mirror Agencies
Make up: Antoinette Turner
Assistants (via Brisbane Camera Hire): Becky Bligh and Taylor Scott

Thanks again team for all your help on the day.

Cheers,
Damian

Another fun business portrait session

Here’s a few of my favourites from my recent shoot with paid search masters Net Media Planet. They’d hired some new staff, so called me back in to capture some fun headshots of the new team. Absolutely love working with these guys as we get to be creative and produce headshots that are beyond your average business portrait. Net Media Planet are a fun, young and vibrant company and these images help show that to their clients.

Thanks guys for being great sports and making it a fun shoot. Already looking forward to the next one :)

Behind the scenes: Viva La Bop photo shoot

Here’s a look behind the scenes on a photo shoot with Viva La Bop. Video camera work by the legendary Paul Bates. Editing by the superstar that is Nadine Schneider. Watch it in the player below or for the full HD version head on over here.

A few of the final images:

It was a super long day, but we managed to get some great images all out of the one (albeit destroyed at the end of the day!) bedroom:

Merry Christmas everyone

Hello,

A huge thank you to all of my clients over the past year. Has been a very interesting time and I’ve been able to see some parts of the the UK and the world that I otherwise would not have been able to make it to. I’ve got one more wedding this year which I’m very much looking forward to. Then it’s onwards to 2011!

Next year I plan to keep pushing the boundaries and try and make more time for personal creative work. I love that my work allows me to always be at least slightly creative, however making time for personal work really helps take me out of my comfort zone and try something new. It’s a great time to sandbox ideas, which I can then incorporate into my paid work (which is generally not the best time to experiment!).

Here’s an example of one such shoot. This is Nadine and I collaborating with hair and make up artist Heather, and our assistant for the session Suze. Like our last testing session, again we were trying to see how far we could push what is possible in a lounge room. I love it and think we achieved one of my favourite photos so far.

To get the look, I used 4 flash units. 2 were speedlites behind Nadine pointed directly at the camera. I then had 2 studio flashes at the front. The main light source had a softbox with the front removed for a very edgy look. The other was on extremely low power and shot through a white umbrella. That was just used for fill to make sure the shadows didn’t go too dark.

Thanks to my lovely girlfriend for modelling for me, again! And for being an amazing photo retoucher. A lot of my commercial work this year has been given the finishing touch by her talents so thank you xxx

Apologies if I haven’t had time to blog about your particular photo shoot this year. Has been my busiest year yet which I’m grateful for but means there’s not enough hours in the day to report on every single shoot! I will try and get some of them online over the coming months.

So, I’m now off to join my good friends Nicki and Cam for some festive celebrations. Merry Christmas to you and your families :)

Cheers,
Damian
