Yulia V Portfolio Shoot

Here’s some images from my shoot with model Yulia V.

Hair, makeup and wardrobe by the always smiling, super talented Ana Popescu.

I was loving the natural light streaming through this window, so shot the entire scene without flash

For these next few, Yulia balanced herself up on the window sill (after ensuring the window was very securely locked!)

Here’s a quick setup shot to show you the window

Bearing in mind the window sill is very narrow, the poses Yulia was able to do were pretty impressive!

Thanks Yulia and Ana for a successful shoot :)

Miles portfolio shoot

Miles was looking to kickstart his modelling career, so we arranged to shoot a range of styles so his portfolio could look varied. Here’s some of my favourites from the shoot.

Fashionable Easter

Happy Easter everyone! Here’s a few images from my shoot with the superstar model, Kitty L. Stylist in charge was Suchita Kapur, with hair and make up by Ana Popescu.

These images were lit with the sun coming from directly behind Kitty, a large white reflector to camera right and a small gold reflector to camera left

With Kitty now facing in to the strong sun, we held a large diffusion scrim between her and the harsh light. This softened the light beautifully, but overall became a bit flat. To get some shape back in to the image, a plexiglass mirror is behind Kitty to camera left to help pop her out from the background. A small gold reflector was used in front of Kitty to kick some light back on to the side of her face, adding a little bit of shape

I love the gentle, natural look to these next two. You can’t help but get lost in those eyes (bigger version on my site).. Sun from behind, white reflector to camera right

Huge white reflector to camera left that was literally moved with Kitty as she walked

The light was fading rapidly, and Kitty was pushing on in her Summer fashion despite the chilly London afternoon. Large white reflector camera right, small gold reflector held above to catch the last remaining sun and bounce onto Kitty’s face

fashion_photographer-7

For this last scene, the light was basically non existent! Out comes the flash, fired through a white brolly on axis with camera

Big thanks to Kitty, Suchita and Ana!!

Ashleigh’s portfolio shoot

Apologies for the lack of updates recently. Have been absolutely flat out! The upside of that is I have a stack of cool images to share with you all.

First up, my shoot with the lovely Ashleigh Cleave-wallace. Ashleigh wanted to update her modeling portfolio with a few new looks. We decided to shoot 3 scenes in one 6 hour session around Shoreditch.

Of course there’s more to strong imagery than good lighting, so I called in my new favourite hair and make artist, the uber talented Ana Popescu

Abi at lastminutefashion.com supplied this cute 40s red dress, so we shot that first

A super quick re-style, then we headed outside to catch the falling sun. Being London and all there was bugger all of a sunset, so I gelled my flash blue (camera geeks, I used a Lee Full CTB)

so that we could then correct the colour back, in camera, to a neutral foreground. This removes blue from the image, which has the consequence of sending the sky orange. Flash was powered about 1.5stops above the ambient, which makes the sky darker and therefore a touch more interesting

Note it was pretty cold and windy, but Ashleigh pushed through just wearing her jacket between takes!

We all headed back inside for Ashleigh to thaw out, whilst Ana worked her magic again with another hair and make up change

I set up the hallway with a red gelled flash hiding in the back. This pic is taken from the back, you can see my strip light (used in the foreground) way at the other end

img_0624

The strip light, un-gelled, so that we could get a small section of Ashleigh lit with clean white light

A quick change of background gel and we rolled off the final images

Thanks to Ashleigh and Ana :)
